Smoke Me Tender Barbecue competed in the 2009 Cross Points Barbecue Cookoff in Shawnee, Kansas, September 11-12, 2009. The entire team wasn’t able to muster for this contest so Gary and Tammye Bosley took a trip down memory lane. They did everything themselves, like they had done back when they first started. The weather was beautiful, with daytime highs in the low 80’s and light wind. Around 40 teams were in this KCBS-sanctioned contest.
When the results were announced, Gary and Tammye had done themselves proud. Their chicken was awarded first place. They also finished in the top ten for both ribs and pork, at 8th and 10th places respectively. Their brisket was not in favor with this group of judges and placed 25th. They were 7th place overall; a good showing for a short-handed team with one member feeling under the weather.
The next outing for the team will be the Jesse James Festival barbecue contest in Kearney, Missouri, September 18-19, 2009. Smoke Me Tender will be defending their Grand Championship from this contest in 2008. After that, the “BIG ONE”, the American Royal in Kansas City, Missouri.
