Smoke Me Tender BBQ team competed in the Raytown Funfest, held June 12-13, 2009, in Raytown, Missouri. This contest is a local favorite and entries are limited to 60 teams. This event has been held for 20 years.
When the awards ceremony started, Smoke Me Tender was the first name called for a 10th place ribbon for chicken. Their ribs placed 20th and pork butt 24th. But what happened to that poor brisket?? It placed 58th. Overall, Smoke Me Tender ranked 42 out of the 60 teams competing. Congratulations to the Pickled Pig team for winning Grand Champion.
This year's consistently good placing with its chicken has raised Smoke Me Tender's ranking to 80th (out of over 2,000 teams) for chicken in the KCBS power rankings. (See www.smokemetenderbbq.com for complete rankings and more info.)
The team is preparing for Wheels 'n Squeals BBQ Challenge in Olathe, Kansas. In addition to the barbecue contest, a car show and many other fun events and activities will take place. The winner of this contest will also be crowned the (Kansas) State BBQ Champions for 2009. Goodyear Dipman Auto Service in Olathe is the sponsor of the Smoke Me Tender team for this contest.
