Sam's Club National BBQ Tour - Overland Park, KS July 1-2
The Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour made a stop in Overland Park, KS on July 1-2.
Smoke Me Tender BBQ was one of the fortunate 30 teams to complete at this event. The stakes were high with several of the top teams in the nation competing.
The weather would not give us a break. On Friday the temperature was over 100 in the shade and the payment temperature was 114. Another hurdle was a water main break that had the entire county on a boil order. To get out of the heat and take a break, the team went out for a quick bite at lunch. Of course, we could not have BBQ, we had to have Mexican. Due to the boil order only bottled water could be served by restaurants. Also, Sam’s Club stepped up to the plate providing each team with jugs of distilled water and a case of drinking
water.
SMT was finally able to meet Smoking Bad Habit and We Like Big Butts BBQ teams. It was the first time this year we were able to see Caveman Cuisine, from Carthage, MO. Big Wig BBQ was also competing along with Team Over Severed, which was next to us at Rock’n Ribs in Springfield, Mo. We now have new friends to see along the bbq trail and can not wait to compete and see them again.
Saturday was another hot day. All of our products were coming off the smoker early due to the heat. We thought the brisket and ribs would finish high. Brisket finished at 13th and ribs was 3rd. Congratulations to all those moving on to Dallas.
